Stories, novels, visual narratives, journals, strange investigations and creative detours that resisted being filed somewhere more sensible.

Some begin with ordinary people in ordinary places. Others involve orangutans, squid, dead possums, institutional worms, suspicious tins and ideas that probably should have been supervised earlier.

They vary in length, format and degree of questionable judgement. What connects them is curiosity, dry humour, strong imagery and the belief that a good story doesn't always need to behave itself.

Design is code. Humour is weaponry. Coffee is fuel.
The rest is mostly paperwork.

Welcome to The Chesterfield Diaries, where very little happens and somehow all of it matters.

Elspeth has rules. Roger has opinions. The cat has overriding authority.

Together they navigate the genuine hazards of domestic life: white bread, kitchen permissions, towel hierarchies, badly organised shopping, unexpected road trips, suspicious wildlife, pizza negotiations and the occasional attempt to leave the property without upsetting anyone.

These are warm, dryly comic stories about two people learning how to share a life without making an unnecessarily dramatic production of it. Affection tends to arrive disguised as coffee, sandwiches, remembering someone’s preferred olives, or knowing when not to mention that the supermarket trolley has been reorganised.

The cat remains unconvinced by most developments.

Each story stands on its own, but read them in order and something quieter begins to emerge: a house becoming a home, routines becoming shared, and Roger gradually acquiring more rights than were originally anticipated.
